REMOVAL OF Pb (II) IONS FROM WATER BY SUNFLOWER SEED PEEL

Summary: The removal of lead from water by sunflower seed peel was investigated. It was found to depend on the solu-tion pH, temperature, adsorbent dose and initial concen-tration. The maximum adsorption efficiency observed was 99% at the equilibrium state. The most successful adsorp-tion was performed at pH 6, 60 oC and initial concentra-tion of 30 ppm. It was also found that the temperature changes have no big effect on the adsorption capacity. In summary, it can be concluded that metal ions such as Pb2+ can be removed efficiently from aqueous solutions using sunflower seed peel, which is a low-cost sorbent and abundantly available. It could be an alternative for the more costly processes.
